Maia Albarosa – BA/BFA

My practice is rooted in materiality, with a particular interest in land, environments and the reconfiguration of painting materials. I patchwork my canvases with a mixture of painting grounds (canvas, linen and burlap); these sewn surfaces then act as a site to respond to, where elements from my life and research spill into the painting via abstract objects, hand-made painting tools, gestures or brushstrokes. My works are intended to be discursive, sensorial and hold ideas of the city and the body. They become a trace of felt experience.
