A particle of dust in the universe

A human is an extremely tiny particle of dust in comparison with the universe, likewise it means we could be just one pixel in digital world. Of course, the size of dust depends on the standard of size. Likewise, the size of pixel is not to be measured physically in digital. One pixel is just one datum. It is still one pixel even if it has some sizes like 5 x 5 mm or 50 x 50 cm. It just looks larger with my eyes.

I could make any size of work like in the monitor with minimum pixels. If so, what if I make a huge work with minimum pixels? And what is the difference between a mosaic made by small pixel and a mosaic made by big pixels? Initially, I made the police with a lot of pixels to express a detailed depiction. After that, I made a man by using a minimum of pixels whose shape can be distinguished by the human eyes. When you observe that at close range, you cannot know for sure like an abstract painting. On the other hand, you are able to distinguish clearly the shape of people at a distance. Through this, I have tried to demonstrate about the visualisation of faded memory. I have used pixels with low resolution in the eternal digital world to illustrate a faded memory as if the memory of the human in reality is getting more faded as time goes by. In other words, the more time goes on, the more memory fades out and becoming a faded memory is like to have low resolution in digital.

Remember Me

, 2015.

This video consists of all students' images in Fine Art Media. Students came from country to country We, however, are coming back to country soon. After around 10 years, can I remember the other students who studied together in Slade? Maybe not. Becuase our memory is very unstable like this video.

Walk by me

, 2015, single channel video, 3 mins 11 secs.

Every second is precious to me in London like every breath is important to us to be alive. It makes me feel alive and more enhanced. However, I cannot remember everything I experienced and everyone I met. We are losing our memory day by day like walking people by me.

This trials and references offered me the biggest change in my life. I was in small boundary of art and I have felt an unquenchable thirst for the limited size of the work. I am trying to make some lager work using the pixel made by printmaking. It could be self-portraits of my enthusiastic feelings and thoughts.

Artist's statement

I had a digital camera with 100 mega pixel resolutions approximately 10 years ago. But now, I have a DSLR with 1800 mega pixel resolution. An interesting aspect of this idea is that I have memories 10 years ago by 100 mega pixel resolutions. That is why I think low resolution pictures of the digital camera look like old films.
I am able to express my faded memory, some memory I want to capture and old memories with pixels. This reflects that the unconscious mind of the human wants to capture the present time would be able to prove the reasons for the existence of the art.
Therefore, the base of my work could be feelings about enjoyable times, regret for forgotten people, and sorrow for faded memories.
