Safe Moving and Handling of People
Course Description:

We are pleased to offer you this practical workshop in people handling. If your work involves moving and handling people where a trolley and/or wheelchair may be used, this practical instructor led training will give you an understanding of what is required for the moving and handling of people during general or emergency situations.


You will be asked to confirm your fitness to participate when you attend the course


Please wear appropriate loose fitting clothing (preferably trousers).



As this is a practical course, please refer to the Health Checklist to confirm that you are fit to undertake this training (you can access this via MyLearning).
Objectives:

By the end of this instructor led training, you will be able to do the following:

  • Apply good posture to manual/people moving and handling tasks
  • Understand causes and prevention of musculoskeletal injuries
  • Handling strategies for people with limited/impaired mobility
  • Understand when and how to use people handling equipment safely and correctly for transferring the person e.g. from a wheelchair, a trolley, etc
  • Able to demonstrate safe practical moving and handling skills

This training course is only available to staff and post-graduate research students from the Wellcome Trust Centre for Neuro Imaging
