Report (suspected) asbestos
Before you start
You must stop working if you discover or suspects the presence of asbestos-containing materials.
The only satisfactory way of identifying the presence and type of asbestos is to examine a bulk sample of material by X-ray diffraction or by microscopy. This must be carried out by an UCL approved asbestos consultant who will update the asbestos records accordingly.
Report it to your line manager who will consult the UCL Asbestos Manager, Tara Kelly. estates.asbestos@ucl.ac.uk Tel: 020 3108 6789 (UCL ext 56789) or 07771 474 083
Emergency helpline: Asbestos out-of-hours emergency helpline: 0345 5040 303
You, or your manager, will need to have access to the asbestos register.
- 1. Check if there's an asbestos label
If you see an asbestos label and the asbestos doesn't appear to be damaged, you don't need to report it.
- 2. Check the Asbestos register
Check the NexGen database to see if someone has reported the asbestos already. You may need to request access.
- 3. Book an asbestos survey
If you would like an asbestos contractor to inspect any suspected asbestos, please fill out the Asbestos Survey Request form and email it to estates.asbestos@ucl.ac.uk
