Arena Fellowship
UCL Arena Fellowship is a welcoming and flexible programme of events and opportunities which focus on advancing research-based education at UCL.
The scheme is accredited by AdvanceHE, which means that UCL can confer awards relating to teaching and leading in higher education upon its own staff.
Experienced staff have the opportunity to gain both a UCL Arena Fellowship and the corresponding HEA Fellowship in one of four categories:
- Associate Fellowship
- Fellowship
- Senior Fellowship
- Principal Fellowship
These awards are made on the basis of your successful experience of teaching, supporting students’ learning or leading an aspect of education at UCL.
No matter what your job title, if you teach or support students’ learning at UCL, or if you lead on an area of education, (for example, as a programme coordinator, departmental tutor or team leader), you’re welcome to come along and participate when you choose.
Not sure where to start? Come along to an 'Initial guidance' session and enrol on the Fellowship Moodle course area to choose the appropriate level of Fellowship and find out how to plan your application.
Before you submit an application
You should attend an 'initial guidance' session and 'developing your application' session before you submit an application for Arena Open.
'Initial guidance' sessions are an informal opportunity to learn more about how to choose the appropriate Fellowship Descriptor and how to plan your application. You can find the next available session in our regular calendar of upcoming events.
For staff who have been to an ‘initial guidance’ session and need feedback on their draft applications, 'developing your application' sessions offer advice on the development of your case studies and give you the chance to discuss how to select examples of your work and write case studies which provide evidence of attainment of the appropriate Descriptor.
Once you’ve attended UCL Arena events that relate to your teaching, supervision, student support or leadership role, you can apply for one of the categories of Fellowship by submitting a written or multi-modal application to an internal panel of academic and professional assessors.
