CDP Walker

Only UCL Network Group staff will be able to use this, others will get a server not found message

Introduction

This program provides an easy way to trace the physical connections of switches as well as providing lots of useful information on that connection and easy ways to connect to each switch.

Screenshots

Coupled with a website mapper (in this case Visio 2003) you can map the layout of your network - this shows the cisco switches connected to an edge router at UCL.

NOTE: There is a now a separate program, based on this that will also also show interface, location and device details, while using less bandwidth than this method. See NetDotGen for more details

Notes

This uses CDP Details for most information. The IP address shown is the first seen on that port by CDP. Occasionally this isn't the management address. This program will attempt to construct the correct address from the host name if this is a 192.168 address.
