Events
Based around events, ES will provide practice sessions for presenters,
networking opportunities for current and potential team members, market
research, seed and other funding research and matchmaking.
ES will not directly co-author or focus on business plans themselves,
but intends to build a reputation as a student-to-student service for
assisted hacking on details and introducing potential advisors, mentors
and founders.
Our series of practical workshops and presentations will have varied
topics (for example but not limited to: start-up management, start-up
finance, intellectual property and venture capitalism). These
information sessions are aimed at providing our members with
professional and impartial advice on a range of subjects that are
relevant to their business.
Events also provide members with a forum for discussion and the
opportunity to network in an informal environment forming what we hope
will be lasting and mutually beneficial business partnerships.
ES will encourage its members to be actively involved the society’s
activities and will be encouraged to put forward their interests in new
events by suggesting their own ideas.
All the ES events are aimed at members of the UCL community who are
either curious or interested in entrepreneurship at any level.
The underlying theme of each event is introducing connections and
starting points for entrepreneurship by offering the opportunity for
insight from successful entrepreneurs and key persons who are directly
involved in the enterprise business at and around UCL.
Workshops
The workshops will involve case studies and interactive brainstorming
sessions based on real scenarios put forward by society members and
industry representatives. For example members thinking about launching
a new venture may wish to select a use the society workshops as a forum
for idea generation and problem solving. As such they will be on an
ad-hoc basis.
Information disclosure will be left to the discretion of the persons or
company running the workshop so as to protect IP.
Speaker
series
A series of speaker events will be held where members of industry will
be invited to UCL to give talks. All industries will be targeted and
therefore the series should attract students and alumni from all
disciplinary areas. The events will also serve as a networking platform
with the opportunity for attendees to interact with the speaker, whom
may in turn serve as a potential employer or investor.
A speaker event will be held once a term beginning in the first term of
2007.
Student
Presentations / Discussion Forum
These will be held once a fortnight and will be informal events where
students will present any ideas they may have.
In order to protect IP we will ensure that any content and derivative
discussions during the presentations do not fall under the contractual
umbrella of the students’ research.
We hope to also provide snacks and drinks with the initial target
audience being around twenty attendees.
UCL
Spin-Out Presentations
Similar to the student presentations these will be a series of seminars
held by alumni members whom have gone on to start up there own
companies.
Social
Networking Events
These will be very informal events held throughout the year to allow
current students and alumni to catch up. They will basically be
networking events to enrich the social, academic, and professional
lives of the ES members, providing an arena for productive informal
communication
Film
Projections
In order to keep our range of activities as diverse and as engaging as
possible, film nights will be held where members will be invited to
view a film of particular interest to the society. For example
business/new venture oriented films.
Joint
Events with Similar Societies in Other Universities
The ES is in close contact with its counterpart in London Business
School whom have shown great interest in sharing events such as
workshops and speaker events. We feel that as a multidisciplinary
institution UCL can offer LBS a more technology focused forum for
learning and networking while they will offer UCL members a more
general business one.
