Susana Rivas BSc

BIOGRAPHY

Susana Rivas is Spanish and first came to England in 1992. She obtained her degree in Mechanical Engineering with Business Finance at University College London in1995. Since then, she has been working on her PhD as a member of the Automatic Control Group.

As a part-time job, she enjoys teaching computing to children.

PhD PROJECT

The work is part of the international project EDICS, which aims to evaluate diverless inspection, repair and maintenance (I, R and M) for subsea completions and deep sea structures. One of the tasks involved in IRM is grinding. The grinding process in itself needs to be evaluated in order to be able to assess the feasibility and reliability of the automation of sub-sea grinding tasks for the repair of weld cracks on oil rigs. A 6-DOF manipulator and a pneumatic grinder are part of the equipment used to parameterise this process.
