Accessibility and Public Transport Research at UCL
Evaluation of Direct and Cross Sector Impacts of Accessible Public Transport
in Rural Areas (ELIXIR)
Funding
Description
ELIXIR makes use of the bus service established by the APTRA project in
1999. The research is investigating how the existence of the accessible
bus service facilitates health and social care provision in the area and
how this could be developed in the future. Major issues we will investigate
are:
-
cost of current transport to health and social care facilities
-
extent to which people are being excluded from these facilities as a result
of the cost or difficulty of providing accessible transport
-
the cost of using the bus service for appropriate journeys
-
the impacts on health and social care resulting from any change in transport
provision as a result of using the bus service
Cumbria County Council and Eden District Council provide officer support
for the project.
