Practical research colaborations: universities and local government partnership
Abstract
This paper discusses the ways in which universities might work with local
authorities and the rationale for choosing this method of working. The
paper begins with a consideration of the opportunities that exist for universities
and local government to work together. Section 2 discusses the needs of
both sides in this area. Section 3 discusses the basis of the approach
to collaborative working adopted by the reearch group working with me on
accessibility issues at the Centre for Transport Studies at University
College London. Section 4 illustrates these points through examples of
collaboration in three of the many areas in which the research group has
worked. These examples show that different ways of working can yield different
results which are suitable in different circumstances. Some conclusions
are drawn in Section 5.
