Scallywag is a Dehler 31, built in 1991 in Germany to a design by van de Stadt. I am her fourth owner.

She is 9.4m long overall and 8.1m at the waterline, which gives her a hull speed, I think, of 6.9 knots. She has a fin keel and draws 1.49m. She has tiller steering.

She has a fractional rig with a slab-reefed, fully battened main and a furling genoa. She also has a spinnaker and a gennaker.

She has a good complement of navigation instruments, including compass, log, echo-sounder, wind instruments, GPS with chart-plotter, DSC radio, radar and autopilot.

She has a Yanmar 2GM20 two-cilinder, raw-water cooled, 18cv auxiliary engine, with a conventional shaft and a two-bladed folding prop.

She sleeps six in two double cabins and two saloon berths. She has a galley and separate heads, as well as some mod cons, including heating, hot water, a fridge and shore power.

Dehler 31's have a reputation for toughness, underwritten by THIS SHOCKING VIDEO.

I'm only just getting to know her, but so far I'm very pleased. She goes fast in light airs. When the wind picks up you need to reef early, but then the tiller is surprisingly light. She goes well in a chop, in fact better than I expected, with a very gracious wave motion for such a light boat (3200kg displacement).
