"Normal Flora"

This may come as a bit of a shock, but out of the 100 million million cells in a human body, only 10 million millon are actually human cells!

So we're only 10% human! (Hart and Shears 2004)

The rest of the cells belong mainly to bacteria, but there are also fungi, protozoa and even arthropods!!

The reason I've given the bacteria a broomstick on the previous page is because these bacteria have important house-keeping functions within our bodies! They are useful in digesting food, and certain bacteria in the vagina create an acidic environment to prevent microbial growth!
