We are excited to invite you to an exclusive online event titled 'Innovate China: Pathways to Entrepreneurial Success'.

This online panel discussion is designed for UCL alumni in China who are entrepreneurs or aspiring to be, as well as recent graduates exploring their career options.

An alumni panel will discuss what unique resources and support systems are available in China's entrepreneurial ecosystem, and how entrepreneurs can leverage them effectively. There will be a Q&A session at the end, where you will have the opportunity to put down your questions for the panellists.

This event will take place online via Zoom webinar on Wednesday 21 August, from 12–1pm BST/7–8pm Beijing Time.

About the Speakers

Dr Ruth Weir (Chair)

Head of Entrepreneurship, UCL Innovation and Enterprise

Ruth's early career was spent in academia, gaining her PhD from UCL in 2013 and working at UC Davis MIND Institute in the field of neuroscience research. She returned to UCL in 2020, joining the UCL Innovation & Enterprise team. Originally, she managed UCL's dedicated entrepreneurial training programme for doctoral students, before taking on the Head of Entrepreneurship role in 2022. Her remit is to oversee UCL's extracurricular entrepreneurial offer, supporting students to develop their entrepreneurial skills and mindset through to starting innovative businesses.

Shining Guo

LLM, 2003

Alumna Shining is a Partner of King & Wood Mallesons, based in Shanghai and Shenzhen. She advises clients on complex commercial disputes, she has extensive experience in handling significant and influential commercial and maritime disputes for foreign and Chinese clients, including commercial litigation and civil tort cases before PRC people’s courts at all levels, as well as arbitration before major arbitral institutions including the HKIAC, ICC, SIAC etc. Shining is listed on the arbitrator panel of the SCIA. In 2018, Legal 500 recommended Shining as cross-border dispute resolution expert.

Linda Zhang

BSc Economics, 2015

Alumna Linda Zhang is the Managing Director of Utopal Group, a group company investing in online retail, media, and e-commerce ventures, and managing multiple brands such as UniFuture, BabylonPlanet, Teapsy etc, spanning the Consumer Electronics, Wellness & Health, and Food industries. Her multiple network channel UniFuture now has over 1,500+ global influencers across TikTok, YouTube, Instagram and Bilibili.

She was previously the Chief Operating Officer for FisherITS, a London-based IT and Software Asset Management advisory and services firm, serving many of the FTSE 100 and Global Forbes 500 companies. Prior to FisherITS, Linda was an Engagement Manager at Deloitte and has also worked in various operational and financial roles at Morgan Stanley and Ernst & Young.

Weijia Ding

PhD in Strategy and Innovation, STEaPP 2024; MSc in Urban Regeneration 2013

Alumna Weijia’s co-founded company, IDEAIN, focuses on corporate services and consulting. Their primary services include assisting companies with incubation and growth, providing commercialisation, entry-to-market, and growth strategy consulting, as well as corporate training. They specialise in cross-border business strategy and implementation. Recently, they have begun leveraging AI in digital strategy and business development.
