Prof Maxine Molyneux retirement
12 October 2023
Professor Maxine Molyneux has retired after an extraordinary and illustrious career.
We’re delighted to share that UCL has conferred her with the title of Emeritus Professor of Sociology. In his letter informing her of this decision, the Provost wrote:
“Highly respected by your peers, you are one of the most senior scholars in the field of Political Sociology. Spanning the academic and policy worlds, you have acted as a senior adviser, consultant, and researcher to UN agencies, IDRC (Canada), Oxfam, the UK Department for International Development, CARE International and other development policy agencies and NGOs. Your focus on gender inequality and women’s movements, citizenship, human rights, and social policy in developing economies is hugely significant and has the potential to change lives for the better. You have shared your expertise through publication and service on the editorial boards of influential journals. UCL is very grateful for your Directorial lead in the creation of the Institute of the Americas at UCL. You have had a pivotal role in the development of Latin American Studies and Development Studies, and your hard work and enthusiasm have made the Institute the leading department of its kind in the UK.”
As a department, we would like to congratulate Maxine, and thank her for everything she has done – and her continued involvement in our work!
