The first seminar in the 2018-19 African Peoples and Pasts Seminar Series will be given by Jane Humphris (British Institute in Eastern Africa) at the UCL Institute of Archaeology on 15 November.
Abstract
Large quantities of iron were produced at the Royal City of Meroe from at least the sixth century BC, until long after the decline of the Kingdom of Kush over one thousand years later. The archeometallurgical evidence revealed during UCL Qatar's 13 seasons of field work, illustrates the evolution of Kush and of the site of Meroe, and highlights the ebb and flow of economic, political and religious life.
All welcome! Any enquiries about the event may be directed to Pauline Harding.
