Launch of Xi’an Training Programme 2023
1 March 2023
Kevin MacDonald (Director, UCL Institute of Archaeology) was invited to deliver a speech to mark the launch of the Xi’an Training Programme last month.
The training programme, organised by UCL Institute of Archaeology, Emperor Qin Shihuang’s Mausoleum Site Museum, and the China Cultural Heritage Information and Consulting Centre, was launched on 6 February in Xi’an, China. Kevin MacDonald was invited to join the event online and deliver a speech to mark the occasion.
The presentations which form the training programme cover subject area and discipline expertise at the UCL Institute of Archaeology - World Archaeology, Archaeological Materials, Geographic Information Systems, Archaeological Theory, Conservation, Comparative Archaeology, and ongoing Heritage research.
Ten modules were produced as pre-recorded video lectures in London and provided to our colleagues in China as the basis for two week training courses in Xi’an. The participants undertaking the training are all academic staff of local archaeological institutes and museums in China. Participants will then be given the opportunity for follow-on questions, discussion, and communication online.
This training programme is sponsored by the Ministry of Science and Technology of China and supported by the National and Shaanxi Provincial Administrations of Cultural Heritage. It will enhance further exchange and collaboration on archaeology and cultural heritage between the UCL Institute of Archaeology and Emperor Qin Shihuang’s Mausoleum Site Museum.
