Murray Andrews appointed to Herefordshire Museum Curatorial Advisory Panel
31 October 2024
Murray Andrews (UCL Institute of Archaeology) has been appointed as an expert member of the Herefordshire Museum Service’s Curatorial Advisory Panel.
In this expert role on the Curatorial Advisory Panel, Murray Andrews will advise on exhibition themes and narratives as part of the £21.7m redevelopment of Hereford Museum and Art Gallery.
Funded by Herefordshire Council, Stronger Hereford, the National Lottery Heritage Fund, and Arts Council England, the redevelopment project aims to create a high quality, socially engaged museum and art gallery for the county, which will become a beacon for culture and heritage within and beyond the Welsh Marches.
Murray will be working with the Herefordshire Museum team to provide insights, recommendations, and assistance in curating and interpreting the museum’s collections, with a particular focus on the Early and High Medieval periods. These include the unique collections from the Hereford city excavations (1960–1990) as well as the Herefordshire hoard, an iconic find of Anglo-Saxon and Viking Age coins and jewellery hidden in the late 9th century and acquired by the museum in 2022.
According to Murray:
“I am delighted to join the Curatorial Advisory Panel, and to work with such an inspiring team of heritage professionals and subject specialists on the redevelopment of Hereford Museum and Art Gallery. This is an exciting time to be involved with Herefordshire’s past, and a unique opportunity to put medieval archaeology at the heart of the county’s cultural offer.”
