The prestigious Stephen Lawrence Prize, which aims to encourage new and experimental architecture, celebrating and awarding projects with a construction budget of less than £1 million, was awarded to Greg Storrar earlier this month.

Greg’s ‘Old Shed New House’ is a home nestled within the agricultural landscape of North Yorkshire. The shed – which was once a container for tools and tractors – has been transformed into a house, now home to a lifetime collection of books and art.

The three-bedroomed property includes a vast library at its heart and uses traditional construction techniques and low-cost materials throughout.

"Being awarded the Stephen Lawrence Prize was an unexpected honour," Greg said. "The first ideas for the project emerged whilst I was finishing my Master's at the Bartlett three years ago and then developed in the time I’ve been teaching here since."

Greg studied Architecture MArch (ARB/RIBA Part 2) at The Bartlett School of Architecture, graduating in 2015. He is now an associate of Tonkin Liu architects and tutors Architecture BSc (ARB/RIBA Part 1) Unit 8 at The Bartlett with Thomas Pearce.
