Bartlett Academics Re-Imagine the Avant-Garde in L.A

Bartlett Tutors Matthew Butcher and Luke Pearson have guest edited a special edition of Architectural Design, with an accompanying lecture series and exhibition.
The special edition of Architectural Design edited by The Bartlett’s Matthew Butcher and Luke Pearson, entitled Re-imagining the Avant-Garde: Revisiting the Architecture of the 1960s and 1970s, explores why this historical period continues to inspire new generations of architectural designers and theorists. An accompanying lecture series, curated by Luke and Matthew, will be hosted at the Soane Museum between 23 October – 27 November, and will include talks from designer Rory Hyde, Luke Pearson and fellow Bartlett tutors, Mark Smout and Laura Allen.
Luke and Matthew are also co-curating an exhibition at the Betts Project gallery in London to display the work of artists and architects who have inspired and contributed to this special edition of Architectural Design. The show will comprise of original architectural drawings and editioned prints alongside models, digital and interactive works that explore the enduring legacy of 1960s and 1970s experimental architecture.
The exhibition will open on 21 November with an accompanying public programme at the Betts Project gallery, 100 Central Street, London, EC1V 8AJ.
Los Angeles Book Launch
On 23 January from 18:30 – 20:30, Matthew will give a lecture and take part in a panel discussion at the Helms Design Centre to mark the launch of the publication in Los Angeles. The event will be hosted by Stephen Phillips and speakers include Andrew Kovacs, Jimenez Lai and Mimi Zeiger.
