Engineering and Architectural Design MEng Announces Theme for Design Make Live
10 March 2023
This year’s event, taking place in the vicinity of Here East on 23 March, will take the form of a carnival that will weave its way through Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.
The Design Make Live event is an annual celebration of Year 1 work from Engineering & Architectural Design MEng (ARB/RIBA Part 1 CIBSE JBM). Around 50 students working in the Design Make Live module, across four studios with support from 12 tutors, will create eight portable pavilions that perform and test engineering and architectural ideas to their limits.
The pavilions, which showcase joyful, original and demonstrable design ideas, will be carried in a procession around the park starting near the park's velodrome and dancing through various sites, including some schools in the park, before ending up in UCLEast, while live experiments throughout the day will enable the work to be formally assessed.
Design Make Live is a microcosm for the construction industry and serves as a test bed for more detailed individual learning and critical inquiry. Inspiration and Integration comes from all Y1 modules taught by architects and engineers working together.
Design Make Live takes place on 23 March 2023 from 11:00–18:00, with refreshments served afterwards. All are welcome to attend and enjoy the carnival!
