The Wallpaper* Architects’ Directory is an annual listing of innovative and promising new architectural practices from around the world. It was established in 2000 as an international index of emerging architectural talent.

Tsing-Tien Making, founded by Freja Bao (Architecture MArch, 2017) and Studio Heech, founded by Heechan Park (Architecture Part 3, 2015) have been named among 20 emerging architectural practices by the global design magazine, Wallpaper*.

Tsing-Tien Making, China – Zhang Garden

In 2023, Freja set up Tsing-Tien Making (TTM), a studio offering architectural design, renovation, art curation and product design services. Rooted in tradition, TTM draws inspiration from historical contexts to create resonant and contemporary designs.

The studio renovated No. 38 Jinfan Road, Suzhou – the former residence of Chinese philosopher Zhang Taiyan (1869–1936). The residence, also known as Zhang Garden, was closed for decades following Zhang Taiyan’s death, and reopened in 2023 as a public museum and cultural hub for the community in Suzhou. The residence comprises three buildings and is surrounded by a green walled garden. As part of the renovation, TTM designed dedicated exhibition spaces within the house to showcase Zhang Taiyan’s contributions to literature and history. The building also features a Gu Wu Xuan bookstore and library to enrich the local community.

Studio Heech, South Korea – Mews House

Heechan studied Architecture March (2011) and Architecture Part 3 at The Bartlett. He founded Studio Heech in 2018 which won the 2020 Korean Institute of Architects (KIA) Award for the Sanyang Brewery project. Studio Heech works across architecture, industrial design, furniture and interactive performance installation. The studio was shortlisted for Architectural Review's 2023 Emerging awards, and he has been selected as an artist for the Korean Pavilion at the Venice Architecture Biennale 2025.

Studio Heech refurbished Mews House, a brick house originally built in 1990 in Seocho-dong, Seoul. Expanding the space to accommodate multiple generations of one family, the studio added translucent glass bricks inspired by Pierre Chareau’s 1932 Maison De Verre. The new design complements the existing building, introducing natural light while maintaining the family’s privacy.
