Design is the core activity of The Bartlett School of Architecture. Design research is the means by which we discover not only the world that exists, but the world that is possible in the future. It results in the completion of highly contextual and inventive buildings, many of which are distinguished with significant awards. It produces speculative and performative works in venues such as the Venice Architecture Biennale, Centre Pompidou, Royal Academy and the Victoria and Albert Museum, which open new interdisciplinary questions about the nature of space and design.
The Bartlett School of Architecture is a school of multiple disciplines, across different physical sites, which studies architecture’s intersection with fine art, criticism, philosophy, engineering, the physical sciences, visual culture and representation, and takes this strength in designing a better built environment.
We have set ‘collaboration’ as a strategic aim for the school, and seek to strengthen and promote collaborations with other parts of the Faculty, UCL, partner institutions, public and private organisations and industry.
