Atlas

Martin Dodge was CASA's Cyberspace expert. He developed An Atlas of Cyberspaces over a long period from when he first came to CASA until he left us for the University of Manchester. He is no longer updating his Atlas but it remains an important resource. He has co-authored two books that deal with how to map cyberspace – Atlas of Cyberspace and Mapping Cyberspace, with Rob Kitchen. When we first wrote this entry, he had recently been interviewed for the magazine Darwin.

The Atlas of Cyberspaces is an atlas of maps and graphic representations of the geographies of the new electronic territories of the Internet, WWW and other emerging Cyberspaces. These maps of Cyberspaces - cybermaps - help us visualize and comprehend the new digital landscapes on our computer screen and in the wires of the global communications networks, aiding our navigation to our information destinations. The cybermaps in this atlas have been created by 'cyber-explorers' from many different disciplines from all around the world. 

Related to the Atlas is his website called The Geography of Cyberspace which is a comprehensive directory of information on all aspects of the geographies of the Internet, World-Wide Web and emerging Cyberspaces.
