Land for housing poor people in Africa through neo-customary processes - an effective alternative to formal systems? Sub-saharan Africa (2003)

This research is a review of the traditional customs for regulating land for housing for the poor in Sub-Saharan Africa, and its implications for policy formulation. This might also include support for neo-customary procedures which are seen as effective alternatives to the formal government and private sector systems from which poor households tend to be excluded. The research was carried out in collaboration with colleagues in Senegal, Ghana, Benin, Cameroon, Namibia, South Africa, Tanzania, Kenya, and Uganda. Funded by PRUD, AFD and SSRU, DFID.
