Nations globally are responding to the climate crisis and to high, unstable, fossil fuel prices, by aiming to rapidly decarbonise their energy systems. At the same time, we are transforming the way we use energy, such as the electrification of transport, heating and cooling. This brings challenges and exciting opportunities for new services and businesses to participate in the energy system and play an active role in balancing supply and demand: a revolution in energy system operation is proposed, the smart energy system.
In this virtual open day we will have two taster lectures from teaching staff on the Smart Energy in the Built Environment MSc at the UCL Energy Institute. First, Professor Cliff Elwell will set out the core principles of why a smart energy system is required and the role that buildings and storage are expected to play in it. Professor David Shipworth will then present real-world case-study examples of projects operating in this smarter way, highlighting their impacts and illustrating the wide range of opportunities to work in the sector.
Following these taster lectures, we will have a Q&A session where you can ask your questions about studying on the course and the funding and scholarships available to support your studies.
