UCL-Energy PhD student wins £1,000 towards charitable project

UCL-Energy PhD student Mike Fell has been awarded £1,000 towards his project to  help address the problem of declining access of children in low-income urban areas to natural and green space as part of UCL's Focus on the Positive event.

Held on 30 October 2012 at London’s Phoenix Cavendish Square, a group of researchers from UCL pitched to the audience how they would tackle big issues, with the audience voting for the winners.

The money that Mike won will fund a series of workshops at a north London primary, giving teachers and children from other schools the opportunity to visit and learn about the garden, plant seeds they can continue to grow at home (on windowsills or balconies) and to supply attending schools with raised bed starter kits.

The event was organised by UCL's Public Engagement Unit and was supported by EPSRC, one of the funding councils that support research in UK universities.
