In the CIBSE Building Simulation Awards announced at the CIBSE Build2Perform Live event on 1st December 2021, Dr. Nishesh Jain has won the CIBSE Building Simulation Young Modeller Award 2021. Nishesh is a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) Associate at UCL IEDE on a DesignBuilder and UKRI co-funded project on in-use building performance assessment, modelling and calibration.

The CIBSE Building Simulation Young Modeller Award is judged by a panel of industry experts and recognises the outstanding contributions of young engineers, apprentices and sustainability consultants working with building performance simulation.

The awards are presented by CIBSE’s Building Simulation Group, whose intent is to inform and promote best practices in computer simulation codes for building related applications and to improve the accuracy of predicting their performance in practice with the aim of designing comfortable and healthier buildings with optimum energy efficiency.

Nishesh’s active participation in supporting building simulation by sharing his research to improve industry best practices was one of the key reasons for his success. In his research work as a PhD researcher at UCL IEDE and now a KTP associate and has contributed to multiple industry guidance documents. The judging panel also appreciated Nishesh’s consistent efforts in disseminating knowledge and good practice via webinars and workshops for DesignBuilder software and UCL IEDE and also with various industry organisations including CIBSE, ASHRAE Ireland and IBPSA-USA.

I am delighted to receive this award. I believe building simulation is an integral part of making buildings perform to meet the low energy and low carbon targets. I intend to keep working with organisations such as CIBSE to ensure that our community can address the continuously evolving climate challenges.”
