Global Zero Carbon Capacity Index (also known as ZC2 Index)

Overview

The Global Zero Carbon Capacity Index (also known as the ZC2 Index)

Funded by the Royal Institute of Charters Surveyors (RICS)

The Global Zero Carbon Capacity Index (also known as the ZC2 Index) is being undertaken by Yvonne Rydin through the UCL Environment Institute. This index combines data on energy consumption and generation with a review of policies oriented towards reducing the carbon associated with built environments in over 30 countries across the world. It seeks to capture the development of capacity at a national level for delivering zero carbon built environments. Every year the Index is rerun and published on the RICS and Environment Institute websites.

Outputs

An annual report provides the index calculations for over 30 countries together with a commentary on key trends.

Impact

The ZC2 Index is addressed to policy makers concerned with the built environment and to the professional planning and surveying communities involved in delivering a low carbon built environment. It seeks to drive the importance of reducing carbon emissions associated with the built environment higher up the policy agenda.
