As governments and their supporters are on track to build national-scale digital public infrastructure in the coming years, it is challenging to find out the status of DPI pilots and deployments globally. The absence of a reliable resource to quickly access this information constrains the ability of implementers to coordinate their efforts in effectively supporting country-level implementation, of civil society actors to learn from existing deployments, and of funders to connect with projects in need of support.

The 'DPI Map' project offers the first comprehensive view on the state of digital public infrastructure (DPI) globally.

It aims to:

  • Develop a baseline on the state of a country’s DPI
  • Communicate externally the "state of DPI" and share momentum behind global DPI development
  • Highlight gaps and opportunities for development actors to support DPI deployment and development of safeguards

This project is led by the Institute for Innovation and Public Policy (IIPP) at University College London UCL. It is presently supported by Co-Develop.

Scope and aim

At the launch, you can access:

  • Repository of DPI Deployments: Access data on deployments of identity, payments and data exchange systems across the world, with a view into their technology and governance features.
  • Measurement Framework: Access a first take on measuring DPI, where we translated its normative qualities to real-world measurement.
  • Insights on the ‘state of DPI’: Find an interim analysis on regional and component-wise trends on DPI.

Target group

The DPI Map provides researchers, policy-makers, DPI builders, and advocates with valuable resources that aids in identifying gaps, opportunities, and best practices in DPI implementation.

If you’re also simply DPI-curious and would like to get involved, this is for you.

This launch will be held virtually on June 11th at 2-3pm BST / 9-10am EDT / 6:30-7:30 IST.
