Isabel Sargent
Izzy is a researcher with over 20 years' experience of leading research in geospatial science and artificial intelligence (AI). Since studying environmental science in the 1990s, she has been using neural networks to extract environmental and social information from aerial and satellite imagery. Recently she has expanded her attention to ethical practice in geospatial AI and the nature of decision making in individuals and organisations. Much of her research it's now vicarious, enjoyed as an industrial supervisor for her wonderful PhDs students. Both her campaigning on local and global environmental issues, and observations of how the technology industry, and AI, are creating as many problems as they solve led her to IIPP. Here she aims to understand better the political and economic causes of stasis and change, so that these may be applied to creating a thriving world for all its inhabitants.
