Elena Costrariol wins EPSRC Doctoral Prize Fellowship

27 July 2020

EngD postgraduate research student Elena Costariol has won a 2 years fellowship to work with Professor Qasim Rafiq on CAR-NK cells

Elena Costariol UCL Biochemical Engineering

Elena has a BSc and MSc in Biomedical Engineering from the Polytechnic of Milan before undertaking her MSc thesis project at the Australian Institute for Bioengineering and Nanotechnology, University of Queensland. Elena then joined UCL Biochemical Engineering for her EngD in collaboration with Sartorius working on the manufacture of CAR-T therapies.

The title of Elena’s project is “Establishing a scalable manufacturing process for CAR-NK therapies.” Part of the project will be in collaboration with Loughborough University to create a predictive model for the growth and differentiation of primary NK cells.

The aim of this project is to establish a scalable manufacturing process for CAR-NK cell production in order to lower the cost of these therapies and make them accessible to a wider number of patients.
