Bernice Wright joins UCL Biochemical Engineering

30 November 2022

A very warm welcome to Dr Bernice Wright who has joined the team here at UCL Biochemical Engineering

Dr Bernice Wright

Bernice was a senior lecturer in Therapeutic Pharmacology at the University of Wolverhampton, UK before joining UCL. Bernice achieved a BSc in Biochemistry at Kingston University, Surrey, UK and a PhD in Nutrition and Thrombosis at the University of Reading, UK.

Bernice’s current research interests are influenced by her working experience in the pharmacology, tissue engineering, cell therapy, drug delivery, and cell bioprocessing areas. Her independent research is focussed on:

  • Evaluation of cell secretomes as anti-inflammatory and regenerative medicine therapeutics.
  • Development of bioprocesses for industrial scale manufacture of cell secretome medicinal products.

Bernice’s multidisciplinary skills and expertise includes a demonstrable understanding of cell and tissue culture, protein biochemistry, biomaterial chemistry, and cell secretome processing and characterisation.

At UCL, Bernice will continue her research into the development of cell secretome therapeutics and manufacturing bioprocesses. She teaches pharmacology and commercialisation of cell and gene therapies as well as core lab skills on the MSc course, ‘Manufacture and Commercialisation of Stem Cell and Gene Therapies’.
