How long have you been in the Faculty of Brain Sciences and what is your current role?

I recently reached the landmark of 20 years at UCL. The first few were in the Faculty of Life Sciences before the creation of our current Faculty. I’m currently Professor of Cognitive Psychology and Director of Education for the Division of Psychology and Language Sciences.

What aspect of your work most excites you and why?

My enthusiasm all comes from the wonderful people that I work with. Both in my education and research roles I’m hugely fortunate to work with people who bring joy to my working day. I’m very lucky to be part of a community of staff and students who are generous with their time and expertise.

What working achievements are you most proud of?

I’ve spent the past 2 years as Programme Director of the BSc/MSci Psychology. I’m really proud of some of the changes that we’ve made in this short time, improving the experiences of our diverse student body and being ever more ambitious for what they can achieve in their time with us.

Tell us something interesting about yourself that people might not know

I have three kidneys. Two are completely useless and the third was given to me by my brother in a transplant in 2020.

What’s the best advice you would give your younger self?

Find your cheerleaders and let them support you along the way. You can’t build a career singlehanded.
