Since 2015, UCL has been part of the Avanade Global STEM Scholarship programme which provides scholarships and paid internships for female students from lower income backgrounds on Computer Science courses.

The professional services firm has now pledged further support over the next three years to provide bursaries for 30 students undertaking the UCL Engineering Foundation Year.

The bursaries will be available to students commencing their studies from September 2024, the Faculty’s 150th anniversary year, and will be complemented by the wrap-around support provided to all Foundation Year students, including academic assistance, wellbeing provision and career planning support.

Students in receipt of the Avanade Scholarship will also be able to:

  • have their own personal mentor provided by Avanade
  • participate in activities organised within the Avanade STEM Scholarship Global programme such as Emerging Tech Workshops, Personal Branding and Design Thinking
  • attend Avanade’s FUEL: Innovation, Leadership and Technology Conference designed for young people at the start of their careers in STEM.

“We are delighted to extend our partnership with Avanade to offer bursaries to Engineering Foundation Year students” said Professor John Mitchell, programme director of the Engineering Foundation Year. “This generous support will make a huge difference to our students and help ensure that they have the very best chance of success in their studies.”

"We take immense pride in our partnership with UCL,” said Heba Ramzy, Avanade Corporate Citizenship Lead. “This collaboration underscores our dedication to make a genuine human impact by fostering the growth of young people in technology, particularly women and girls, supporting them to navigate their educational journey and embark on fulfilling careers.

“As a Responsible Business, Avanade is committed to being responsible in everything we do, which includes inspiring and empowering the leaders of tomorrow fairly and responsibly.”
