Diagnosis and Treatment

We offer a specialist diagnostic and advisory service for Facioscapulohumeral muscular dystrophy (FSHD)

This includes a combination of:

• Detailed clinical assessment
• MRI scanning of muscles
• Genetic testing 

A muscle biopsy is not routinely needed to make a diagnosis of Facioscapulohumeral muscular dystrophy (FSHD) but may be performed if required in difficult cases.

Treatment options include specialist neuromuscular orthotics and physiotherapy input.

We offer multi-specialty assessments including sleep studies in The Neuromuscular Complex Care Centre (NMCCC).

We also offer patient social support through our Clinical Nurse Specialists.
