BCECA Industry Day for 3rd Year Design Project Students

At the start of term the third year Design Project kicked off with an Industry Day event run by BCECA (British Chemical Engineering Contractor Association). The event was run by graduate engineers from Air Products, CB&I, Petrofac and Amec Foster Wheeler and included recent graduates from UCL who had completed the Design Project a few years ago.

The objective of the day was to give students an idea of factors that influence process design and project management exemplified by an air separation process project. The students worked in their design teams on challenging business focused problems that covered different aspects of the project life cycle from bidding and scheduling to purchasing. Chemical engineering problems on P&ID development, HAZOP brainstorming and commissioning gave students an understanding of what it is like to work as a process engineer in industry.
