Online teaching - Pub quiz and practical kits for GMNR students on Zoom

Pub Quiz

In order to facilitate online teaching and to make sure that we are 'Remote not Distant', there was a zoom 'pub quiz' hosted by PhD students Todd Downing and Kate Laxton for the Geology for Global Managers and Engineers module, as a part of the virtual field trip to Dorset, to learn about Wessex Basin evolution and its hydrocarbon potential. It was wonderful to see the M.Sc. students from the Global Management of Natural Resources programme engage enthusiastically with their peers from Earth Sciences to learn and have fun, both at the same time. There were some challenging emoji puzzles from Kate on capital cities, movies and volcanoes that kept everyone thinking!

Practical kits

Practical kits containing hand specimen of some common rocks and minerals were distributed to the M.Sc. students from the Global Management of Natural Resources programme to support their learning for the Geology for Global Managers and Engineers module. The packs consisted of a range of rock types, igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic, as well as different classes of minerals including silicate, oxide, sulphide, carbonate and phosphate. The students worked in groups to learn about the identifying features of these hand specimen, that are key natural resources as building stones, ore minerals and host for hydrocarbon reserves.
