This workshop will enhance your understanding of the structure and illustration of a PhD thesis, direct you to the academic writing support offered by UCL, and share with you the personal experience of thesis writing from our panellists. You will also have the opportunity to ask the panel questions.
UCL Chemistry PhD students of all stages can attend the workshop the Workshop.
Agenda
The workshop will be divided into two parts:
- Talks from our panellists.
- Q&A session.
7 panellists are joining from different chemistry branches and career stages in the department, as well as the UCL Academic Communication Centre. Their talks will cover a wide range of topics related to PhD thesis writing.
- Aaron King (PhD student, inorganic chemistry, currently writing a thesis): practical details of writing a thesis during a pandemic.
- Dr Joe Forth (Ramsay Fellow, physical chemistry): “No papers, no problem! Finishing a PhD when it feels like you’ve got nothing.”
- Dr Kylie Yang (PDRA, organic chemistry): scientific illustration.
- Dr Adam Clancy (Ramsay Fellow, inorganic chemistry): thesis structure.
- Dr Alice Henley (Associate lecturer (teaching) and PDRA): personal experience of thesis writing.
- Daphne Thomas (Head of UCL Academic Communication Centre): an overview of writing a thesis, self-plagiarism, and academic writing support.
- Dr Jadranka Butorac (Senior teaching & learning postgraduate administrator): final year PhD progression and CRS.
