As you’d expect from a music which has been in a state of almost constant evolution over the last 120 years, there are many twists and turns to consider when trying to answer the question “what is jazz?” And, of course, many different opinions, many delivered with fierce resolution. So we’re going to take a trip through the history of jazz – the music which has been described as America’s greatest gift to the world – and highlight some of the greatest milestones in its development
