To transition from an MPhil to a PhD programme at UCL, follow these steps:
1. Registration for MPhil Degree
You begin your PhD journey registered for an MPhil degree, but you need to transfer to PhD status at some point during your degree.
2. Minimum Study Period
After a minimum of 9 months (full-time) or 15 months (part-time) of study, you will be eligible for the 'upgrade' process.
3. How to Upgrade
Visit the Upgrade web page for detailed instructions on completing the upgrade process.
Keep in mind that specific departmental or programme guidelines may apply, so it is essential to consult with your department for additional guidance.
4. Setting Your Upgrade Date
Consider setting a tentative upgrade date as early as possible. While this date can be adjusted in necessary, having a target date provides you and your supervisory team with a clear goal to work toward.
5. Succesful Upgrade
Once your upgrade has been successfully completed, your registration will be transferred from MPhil to PhD. At this point, you should complete the Upgrade section in your Research Log.
