This workshop discussed recent methodological issues and applications of the regression discontinuity design (RDD). The RDD is an econometric quasi-experimental design aimed at estimating the causal effects of a treatment by exploiting naturally occurring or externally imposed treatment rules.

The 2017 Gorman Lecture was presented by Torsten Persson, Professor of Economics at Stockholm University and Centennial Professor at the London School of Economics.
Persson’s work has spanned macroeconomics, international economics, and public economics, but he is most well-known for his articles and books on political economics. His current research focuses on development, civil war, and climate change.

Explore Econ 2017
UCL Economics hosted its third annual undergraduate research conference, Explore Econ, on March 1, 2017. The conference showcased independent work done by students from all years of the undergraduate programme, much of it outside of the curriculum. The work is presented in posters and presentations. In addition, the conference also showcased the winning contributions of our First Year Challenge, a multimedia film project.
