Welcome to the team!

8 April 2020

Introducing and welcoming Ikeade Egbetola to the Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering. Ike is the Administrator for the Institute of Communications and Connected Systems (ICCS). We asked her a few questions to get to know her better.

Ikeade Egbetola

Which group are you working alongside in the department?
I am working with Dr Robert Thompson as the administrator for the Institute of Communications and Connected Systems. The Institute of Communications and Connected Systems (ICCS) brings together experts from academia and industry to produce pioneering research in the field of communications and technology. I support the Institute by managing the website, membership queries and help organise a portfolio of ICCS events and online seminars.

Tell us a little bit about your educational background
I studied Media Practices and Photography at the University of Luton (Now Bedfordshire) and Sound Recording Technology at the London Metropolitan University. I previously worked in the British Library Sound Archives and as a researcher with BBC Information and Archives.

How did you get into this field of work?
I was fortunate enough to get a job in the sound archives where I enabled access to a wide variety of audio recording for listening appointments. I also had the opportunity to go out and make audio recordings (now held in the archives) of theatre plays, talks, and live art events which took place in venues around London.

What are your interests beyond engineering?
I passed my PADI diving course last year. I will need to attend a refresher course to refine my buoyancy skills. I’m also a hospital radio volunteer at UCLH.

Any motivational quotes that inspire you?
I read this quote in a book very recently, ‘Be impatient for action, but patient for outcomes’ -Maureen Bisognano – CEO Institute for Healthcare Improvement. It can be applied to so many situations.
