Prof Huiyun Liu - Professor of Semiconductor Photonics
Huiyun Liu received the PhD in Semiconductor Science from the Institute of Semiconductor, Chinese Academy of Sciences. After receiving his PhD, he joined the EPSRC National Centre for III-V Technologies at University of Sheffield in August 2001. He was responsible for the development of Molecular Beam Epitaxy growth of semiconductor materials for the UK academic and industrial research community. In 2007, he was awarded Royal Society University Research Fellow and started his academic career in the Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering at UCL, where he is currently a Professor of Semiconductor Photonics. He has co-authored over 300 papers in the area of semiconductor materials and devices. His general interest concentrates on the nanometre-scale engineering of low-dimensional semiconductor structures (such as quantum dots, quantum wires, and quantum wells) by using molecular beam epitaxy and the development of novel optoelectronic devices including lasers, detectors, and modulators by developing novel device process techniques. He is currently servicing as Editor-of-Chief for Journal of Physics D: Applied Physics.

Dr Mingchu Tang - Lecturer in MBE
Mingchu obtained the BEng degree of Electronic and Electrical Engineering from the University of Sussex in 2011, U.K. He obtained the MSc degree in Nanotechnology from the University College London, in 2012, In Oct 2012, he joined the Photonics group as a PhD student and graduated as a PhD on Molecular Beam Epitaxy of III-V compound semiconductors and optoelectronic devices in 2016. His interests include III-V quantum dot optoelectronic devices monolithically grown on group III-V and IV platforms. He is now a Lecturer in the Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering at UCL. He has published more than 80 journal papers with an H-index of 26.

LAB STAFF
Huiwen Deng - MBE Lab Manager
Huiwen Deng received his bachelor's degree in Huazhong University of Science and Technology on optical electronic information in 2016. He obtained MSc degree in Communication and Signal Processing from Imperial College London in 2017. He is currently working towards the Ph.D. degree in molecular beam epitaxy growth group. His research focuses on the QD laser. He is responsible for the day to day running of the MBE Lab and maintaining / servicing the equipment.

Manyu Dang - Research Assistant
Manyu Dang received her bachelor's degree in BEng. Electronic Engineering at the University of Manchester in 2016 with the First-Class Hons. Then, she obtained her MSc degree in MSc Nanotechnology in University College London. From Sept. 2018, she joined the Photonics group in UCL as a research student, currently is working towards the Ph. D. degree. Her research area is mainly focus on the III-V quantum dots laser device.
Hui Jia - Research Assistant
Hui Jia obtained the MSc degree in Advanced Materials Science from University College London in 2017. She is currently working towards the Ph.D. degree in molecular beam epitaxy group at UCL. Her current research focuses on the laser fabrication and molecular beam epitaxy growth of group IV materials

Dr Danqi Lei - Research Fellow
Danqi Lei received her PhD degree in Electronic & Nanoscale Engineering from the University of Glasgow in 2021. She worked as a reliability & test engineer in Huawei Ipswich research centre in 2022 and received individual annual reward as an RSOA product engineer. Her research focuses on lasers and Si compact III-V photonic crystal optics.

Dr Jae-Seong Park - Research Associate
Jaeseong Park received BS, MEng, and PhD degree in Materials Science and Engineering from Korea University, South Korea, in 2010, 2012, and 2016, respectively. In Nov 2017, he joined MBE group (Dept. of Electronic and Electrical Engineering) at University College London as a research associate. His research interests include III-V-based quantum-dot optoelectronic devices and hybrid III-V/Si photonics.

Dr Haotian Zeng - Research Fellow
Haotian Zeng received the MEng degree in Electronic and Electrical Engineering at UCL in 2017. He has joined the MBE group from Oct 2017 as a research student and has completed his Ph.D. His research field focuses on Molecular beam epitaxy growth of self-assembled III-V nanowire structures also related applications in optoelectronic devices. .

PHD STUDENTS
Calum Dear
Calum received a BSc in Physics with First-Class Hons. from Cardiff University in 2020. Following his undergraduate, he completed his MSc in Compound Semiconductor Physics with a Distinction at Cardiff University in 2021. Progressing in his EPSRC doctoral training program, Calum joined the MBE group at UCL in October 2021. His research interests are MBE growth of III-V quantum dot materials for fabrication into infrared laser devices.
Xingchen Liu
Xingchen Liu obtained her MEng degree in Electronic and Electrical Engineering, University of Sheffield. She joined the Photonics group of UCL in 2023 as a PhD student. The main focus of her research is the fabrication of III-Vs and Si based quantum dots optoelectronics devices.
Khaya Mtunzi
Khaya received his BSc in Physics from Swansea University in 2019. Following that, he completed an MSc in Astrophysics and Compound Semiconductor Electronics in 2020 and 2021, respectively, at Cardiff University. In 2021, he joined the UCL MBE group and currently, his research focuses on III-V quantum dot lasers grown on SOI substrates.
Xueying Yu
Xueying Yu obtained the BEng degree in Electronic and Electrical Engineering from University College London in 2019. After this, she received the MSc degree in Nanotechnology at UCL in 2020. She has joined the MBE group from Oct. 2021 as a PhD student, and her research interest currently focuses on group-IV material growth.
Jiajing Yuan
Jiajing Yuan obtained a MEng degree with First-Class Hons. in the Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering, University College London (UCL), in 2021. From the April 2022, she joined the Photonics group at UCL as a PhD student. Her current research focuses on the Molecular Beam Epitaxy growth of self-assembled III-V QD lasers.

Xuanchang Zhang obtained the MEng degree in Electronic and Electrical Engineering from University College London in 2022. From October 2022, He joined the MBE group as a PhD student and his research interest is currently focusing on semiconductor optoelectronic devices.
