The accelerator, which launched in 2018, is open to 12 of the world’s best precision medicine startups every year.

Each cohort completes a six-month programme that brings together industry, healthcare and academia for the first time to create a new ecosystem for developing precision medicine for all.

The launch of the P4 Precision Medicine programme is part of a wider collaboration between UCL and Barclays to support innovation in the healthcare industry. The programme is based at IDEALondon (a partnership between UCL and Capital Enterprise), which is UCL’s flagship tech hub in Shoreditch.

The startups on the programme will have access to world-class researchers and healthcare partners from UCL, paired with onsite business mentors from Barclays.

As a member of UCL Partners, one of the largest academic health science partnerships in the world, UCL is committed to driving innovation in healthcare.

Phil Beales, Professor of Medical Genetics at UCL, said, “Precision medicine is a new paradigm for disease treatment and prevention that considers an individual’s variability in genes, environment and lifestyle. It is transforming how all patients are being treated.

“For precision medicine to become the norm, actors from the healthcare industry and academia must work together to find new solutions. This is why partnering with Barclays is such an exciting opportunity, in which the best academic and business minds can work together with entrepreneurs to create an ecosystem where new ideas can flourish.”
