Study AI and machine learning at UCL
Discover how you can use AI to make the world a better place at UCL, one of the world’s pioneering AI research institutions.
AI is no longer restricted to computer science. Whether you practice civil, electronic and electrical, mechanical or biomedical engineering, tools like AI, machine learning and computational approaches now play an integral part in how we use science to solve problems.
As an artificial intelligence engineer, you could explore medical engineering to develop vital healthcare applications. You could explore AI-assisted surgery, or look for ways to manipulate large amounts of imaging data to relieve time pressures on clinicians and provide faster, more accurate diagnoses.
With postgraduate degrees available through UCL Civil, Environmental and Geomatic Engineering, your expertise in data mining could lead you to explore disease prediction and personalised medicine, helping us prevent disease and improve treatment.
Alternatively, you could use geospatial sciences to improve public health through the design of urban spaces, or create automatic drone delivery systems to distribute medical supplies in rural or low resource environments.
Beyond healthcare, you could explore ways to use AI to drive sustainable development, through the optimisation of food production methods, or natural resource allocation.
Or you could work as an integrated machine learning systems engineer, creating and refining the hardware – from sensors to data centres - that makes any of this possible.
Whichever path you choose, at UCL you’ll find the guidance, expertise and facilities you need. Our AI centres and research groups (including the Gatsby Computational Neuroscience Unit and the cross-faculty Centre for Computational Statistics and Machine Learning) are dedicated to foundational research that secures AI as a positive force for people and planet.
