Education and Experience
I was educated at the Mykolaiv Pedagogical University (Ukraine) where I completed the course in Ukrainian Language and Literature, ESOL and World Literature. I obtained my PhD in Comparative Literature from the Institute of Literature at the Academy of Sciences of Ukraine in Kyiv. Since finishing my doctorate, I held several fellowships, including Fulbright Scholar Fellowship (Pennsylvania State University, USA); Erasmus+ Mobility Program Fellowship (Cadiz University, Spain); Centre for Governance and Culture in Europe Grant (St. Gallen University, Switzerland); International Research Training Group Guest Professorship Grant (Saarland University, Germany); the Historical Society (RHS), British Association for Slavonic and Eastern European Studies (BASEES), Ecclesiastical History Society (EHS) and German History Society Scholars (GHS) at Risk Programme (the University of the West of England); and Council for At-Risk Academics (Cara) at the University College London for 2022-2023. I have taught at Petro Mohyla Black Sea University (Mykolaiv, Ukraine), Cadiz University (Cadiz, Spain), and Saarland University (Germany).
Research Interests
I have published and lectured on topics of Ukrainian American literature; memory, identity, and belonging in contemporary Ukrainian and American narratives; representation of trauma in audio-visual art; imagoimage of Ukraine in art and culture; and Chernobyl in American popular culture. Recently, I have been involved in a number of research projects on borders and border crisis in Europe. My current research focuses on overlapping of border and body concepts in literature, art, and oral histories of witnesses of the war; DP narratives from the 20th and 21st century; examples of war artivism in Ukraine and abroad, its influence on diverse interpretations of Ukraine and its borders; and interconnectedness between trauma and border crossings in literature and art of past and present.
