Creating impact through knowledge exchange awards: Nominations open

Nominations are open for new annual awards which aim to recognise and reward UCL staff and students for successful knowledge exchange and innovation activity.

You can nominate yourself or a colleague for an award in the following categories:

The deadline for nominations is midday on Friday, 15 November 2024.

Each award will be judged by a panel of academic and professional services staff from across UCL.

Winners will be invited to a celebration with the Provost and other senior staff and award winners on the 4 February 2025. Winners will also receive a certificate and trophy, and funding to host a small event within their department to showcase their success and to promote knowledge exchange and innovation activity at UCL.

Categories


Provost's spirit of innovation

This award recognises the achievements and attitude of a UCL staff, student or alumnus in engaging in innovative activity, which has contributed positively to UCL's knowledge exchange environment.

Individual members of staff, students and alumni can be nominated for this award.

Criteria

To be eligible for this award, the individual must be able to demonstrate they have:

  • an ongoing attitude of innovation in all that they do
  • made the best of entrepreneurial and innovative opportunities that exist to enhance research, teaching and/or learning
  • engaged in knowledge exchange in ways that have enhanced their core research, teaching or learning and created impact

In your nomination, we want to hear about:

  • how the nominee has engaged in knowledge exchange and innovation activities (400 words max)
  • ongoing personal development and improvement in delivering innovation and knowledge exchange activities (400 words max)
  • the impact on others at UCL that have come from the engagement (300 words max)
  • any external impacts or benefits that have come from the work of the nominee (300 words max)

Nominate for Provost's spirit of innovation award


Impactful partnership with industry

This award recognises a UCL collaboration with industry that showcases a successful partnership that has delivered impact.

Both individuals and teams can be nominated for this award.

Criteria

To be eligible for this award, the:

  • nominee(s) must be members of UCL staff
  • partnership must be with industry (a company or other commercial organisations)
  • partnership should have been active within the last 12 months (but you may highlight impact/outcomes from previous years for long standing partnerships)
  • outcome(s) of the partnership must demonstrate a direct benefit and impact to the economy and/or society

In your nomination, we want to hear about:

  • how the collaboration came about and the scope of the partnership (300 words max)
  • the benefits of the partnership to both UCL and the industry partner, including any societal, civic or economic benefits (500 words max)
  • what both the nominee(s) and partner brought to the collaboration (300 words max)
  • how both sides worked together to find solutions to any challenges (300 words max)

Nominate for Impactful partnership with industry award


Impactful partnership with an SME

This award recognises a UCL collaboration with a small or medium-sized enterprise (SME) that showcases a successful partnership that has delivered impact.

Both individuals and teams can be nominated for this award.

Criteria

To be eligible for this award, the:

  • nominee(s) must be members of UCL staff
  • partnership must be with an SME, or a company that was classified as an SME within the last 12 months (the company should meet the European Commission SME definition)
  • partnership should have been active within the last 12 months (but you may highlight impact/outcomes from previous years for long standing partnerships)
  • outcome(s) of the partnership must demonstrate a direct benefit and impact to the economy and/or society

In your nomination, we want to hear about:

  • how the collaboration came about and the scope of the partnership (300 words max)
  • the benefits of the partnership to both UCL and the SME partner, including any societal, civic or economic benefits (500 words max)
  • what both the nominee(s) and partner brought to the collaboration (300 words max)
  • how both sides worked together to find solutions to any challenges (300 words max)

Nominate for Impactful partnership with an SME award


Impactful partnership with public and third sector

This award recognises a UCL collaboration with the public and third sector that showcases a successful partnership that has delivered impact.

Both individuals and teams can be nominated for this award.

Criteria

To be eligible for this award, the:

  • nominee(s) must be members of UCL staff
  • partnership must be with a public or third sector partner, such as a charity or non-profit organisation
  • partnership should have been active within the last 12 months (but you may highlight impact/outcomes from previous years for long standing partnerships)
  • outcome(s) of the partnership must demonstrate a direct benefit and impact to the economy and/or society

In your nomination, we want to hear about:

  • how the collaboration came about and the scope of the partnership (300 words max)
  • the benefits of the partnership to both UCL and the partner organisation, including any societal, civic or economic benefits (500 words max)
  • what both the nominee(s) and partner brought to the collaboration (300 words max)
  • how both sides worked together to find solutions to any challenges (300 words max)

Nominate for Impactful partnership with public and third sector award


Professional services support for knowledge exchange

This award recognises a professional services individual or team who has gone above and beyond what is expected in their day-to-day role to contribute to a knowledge exchange project, activity or outcome.

Both individuals and teams can be nominated for this award.

Criteria

To be eligible for this award, the team or individual must be:

  • in professional services (but they do not have to be knowledge exchange specialists)
  • able to demonstrate how they've supported and enabled knowledge exchange activity to go ahead, either within their area or across UCL
  • able to demonstrate impact or positive outcomes from the work they've enabled or supported

In your nomination, we want to hear about:

  • the different ways the nominee has supported and enabled knowledge exchange to happen (300 words max)
  • examples of the outcomes of their support or activity, for example, projects or events which went ahead, deals made, partnerships that flourished etc. (500 words max)
  • how they worked to develop new approaches, trial novel ideas or overcome obstacles to ensure knowledge exchange activity could flourish (300 words max)
