An online training course titled ‘Engineering based fragility and vulnerability assessment was successfully delivered by the UNESCO Chair in Disaster Risk Reduction and Resilience Engineering (DRR&RE) at University College London (UCL) during 22-23 September 2022. The event began with an introductory presentation by the Chair, Prof. Dina D’Ayala, outlining the aims and objectives of the UNESCO Chair in DRR&RE and associated ongoing activities. This was followed by a number of presentations by Dr. Rohit Kumar Adhikari, Dr. Ahsana Parammal Vatteri and Mr. Rafael Fernández, describing the technical details behind the framework for engineering based vulnerability assessment. In particular, simplified but reliable procedures for seismic performance assessment, fragility derivation and vulnerability derivation were presented along with examples.  The attendees also had opportunity to use these procedure and tools by themselves during the hands-on exercise session.

The recordings of the online course are available here: DAY 1 and DAY 2

We want to thank all the participants for their interest and engaging discussion. As part of the Chair’s activities, we will be organizing seminars and training courses on a regular basis, the relevant announcements will be made via the UNESCO Chair web pages and social media.
