UCL Summer School: Social Determinants of Health is proud to announce the book launch of ‘Health in a Post-COVID World: Lessons from the Crisis of Western Liberalism’ by Sebastian Taylor (Policy Press/Bristol University, 2023)
Drawing on extensive frontline experience working with health systems and healthcare in the Global North and South, Dr Taylor assesses the concrete impact of contemporary liberal values on our welfare, development and environmental survival.
There will be presentations by Professor Melissa Leach, Director, Institute of Development Studies (IDS), University of Sussex & Dr Bhanu Williams, Consultant and Specialist in Paediatric Infectious Diseases, Deputy Dean, NW London, Health Education England, followed by refreshments.
Sebastian Taylor leads the global programme at the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health. He is an advisor to the Global Polio Eradication Initiative and served as Senior Research Fellow on the WHO Commission on Social Determinants of Health. He works with governments, UN agencies, international and local NGOs on health systems strengthening in a range of countries including India, Pakistan, Myanmar, Nepal, Afghanistan and Laos, Nigeria, Rwanda and Sierra Leone. He has led intervention in conflict-affected and post-conflict countries, from clearing landmines to changing humanitarian law, and has taught international health and development, and global health governance, at undergraduate and graduate levels.
