Architecture student
Shapurji Nasarwanji Buchia studied at University College, London from 1919 to
1923. Born in 1888, Buchia was from India, lived in Tardeo, Bombay. At UCL
Buchia studied Architecture in the Faculty of Arts, specialising in design work.
Whilst a student, Buchia resided at the Indian Students' Union and Hostel of
the YMCA, at Keppel Street, its original location before moving to Gower Street
in 1923. During the interwar period hundreds of Indian students resided at the
Indian Students' Union and Hostel and it was a venue for students to meet and
socialise as it had a restaurant and planned a public programme putting on
lectures and performances in addition to running the journal Indus.
